Midnight Circus was a young, brash, troupe of performers that had their first adventure together in Europe. They were enchanted with the intimate theatrical circuses they saw in the small parks and piazzas in Italy and France. The idea that families could come together in their very own communities and enjoy unique, exciting, world-class entertainment was a revelation to them. They were of the mind that you had to travel across town, fight traffic, and spend time and money parking in order to enjoy such a treat. They aspired to one day create such a venue in our communities.
OVER A DECADE LATER
The Midnight Circus is a bit older, a bit wiser, but hopefully just as brash. That long ago idea that one day we would create an intimate theatrical circus that played to sold out audiences right in the heart of our fair city was about to become a reality…
The Midnight Circus is partners with the Welles Park Advisory Council. They brought together their company of performers from around the world that now call Chicago home and have created an amazing show. Midnight Circus serves to bring the community together in their park. Volunteers from all walks of life participate in taking tickets, hanging posters, spreading the word, and ultimately making the show an unbelievable success.
Midnight Circus: In The Parks has expanded to include Chase Park. Now with more parks, more shows, bigger audiences, and more money raised for play lots and programming this event is better than ever.
In 2013, Midnight Circus: In The Parks embarked on its biggest, boldest tour to date, encompassing parks all across Chicago and packing the little Big Top with over 20,000 people.
Now in 2016, Midnight Circus is celebrating 10 Incredible years of “Brining Circus to the People.”
To date, this one-of-a-kind program has raised over $850,000 for local park improvements!
