Elie Madi – NYFW Spring 2018 Ready-To-Wear
Walking away from the Elie Madi show leaves you with a fervent longing for the days of Old Hollywood glitz and glamour. It moves you to be a part of the resurrecting style of classy sophistication and to marry it with modern elements.
The Lebanese fashion designer whose trademark look embodies luxurious designs, has debuted a collection that brings his niche – glamorous women’s evening wear – to a new, unparalleled level. Madi, who recently dressed A-list songstress superstars Carrie Underwood and Katy Perry, appeals to the chic, Hollywood glamazon in all of us without going over the top. His stunning collection at NYFW emanated opulence and charm, as lustrous sequins took center stage in the form of curve-hugging body suits, head-turning capes, and floor length gowns.
Various shades of gold, silver, magenta, and teal played an integral role in the patterns of each piece, while highlighting various art deco designs which allude to the ‘Great Gatsby’ era of the roaring 1920’s. Sequined knee highs, hooded capes, and coy bodysuit cutouts revive this vintage fashion style and usher it into the 21st century. There’s a design for every taste ranging from slightly demure to bold and edgy. It’s refreshing to see a collection that redirects our attention to the art of evening wear.
Old Hollywood romance will be alive and well this spring thanks to Elie Madi. Heads will turn for the beautiful women in his eye-catching statement pieces. While admiring his breathtaking collection, I couldn’t help but think of Nick’s observation in The Great Gatsby when he recounts Gatsby’s desire for Daisy, “He threw all those parties hoping she’d wander in one night.” I’d like to think that this collection has been created for all of the Daisy Buchanans in the world. When she walks into the party in Elie Madi, he’ll be sure to notice.
