Graffiti Artist Alec Monopoly Debuts 25 New Works at His Birthday Extravaganza – Exclusive Photos
Last week in New York City, masked celebrity graffiti artist Alec Monopoly celebrated his 32nd birthday in style by hosting an exhibit of 25 new works in SoHo’s Eden Fine Art Gallery. Titled “CA$H CA$H BANG BANG,” this exhibition was directly inspired by the film works of iconic actor Robert De Niro. Classic movies like The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Heat, and more were the driving force behind some of the artist’s latest pop art works. Of course, he also displayed new works featuring his signature muse, the Monopoly Man.
These vibrant, colorful, and statement-making creations captured an array of pop culture icons in an imaginative way that only Alec Monopoly could.
This show represented the first time in ten years that Alec Monopoly displayed his work in the Big Apple. But the first exhibit he ever had in his career was in New York, so it was an appropriate venue to return to. His art paired wonderfully alongside the gallery’s other sculptures and installations – like works by Jonas Leriche, Dorit Leveinstein, and SN –making the exhibition a total experience for guests. Which is a total dream come true for this artist.
“I’ve known ever since I was a little kid [I’d be doing this]. Every birthday I would blow out the candles and wish that I would be an artist, a famous artist,” Alec said. “Now I’m living my dream. I’m living my dream and I’m creating a fantasy world with my artwork that I live in as well.”
For the celebratory birthday extravaganza, the beautiful gallery was transformed into a lively space full of magic. Guests mingled around the artwork, took in impromptu dance performances throughout the venue, and snacked on food truck French fries (housed in Monopoly Man-inspired top hats) and a custom-made graffiti cake. How perfect is that?
