Coach’s Spring 2019 Womenswear Campaign Is Inspired by the American West
The Coach Spring 2019 womenswear campaign is filled with festive fringe, romantic ruffles, statement collars – and all the divine, must-have Dreamer Bags you can imagine. Like Michael B. Jordan’s newly-debuted menswear campaign, the editorial imagery was shot by Craig McDean in a desert landscape outside of Los Angeles. But the Western influences don’t end there!
According to the brand, this season’s collection was “inspired by road trips out west,” with the idea of “west” open to your own interpretation. Could it be the Wild West we think about in the 1800s? Classic western Americana? The picturesque deserts of New Mexico? Or modern getaways in the Hollywood area, like family Disneyland trips? For the season, it’s some mix of all of the above.
“Spring 2019 is inspired by the American west,” Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers said in a statement. “It’s about possibility adventure and romance—and places where anything can happen.”
Featured in this campaign are models Adut Akech, Sora Choi, Fran Summers, Kiki Willems, and Indira Scott. Fabulous fashionista Coach ambassadors Kiko Mizuhara and Guan Xiaotong are also part of this stunning campaign, but singer Selena Gomez is noticeably missing from the ads.
“The images and new cast convey the distinctly inclusive and optimistic vision of the house and the collection’s theme of scavenged and reconstructed Americana,” Coach said in a press release.
You will see those inspirations everywhere – along with plenty of references to Coach’s own brand past. There are playful Disney elements seen throughout the range, like cute and kitschy Aristocrats sweatshirts and 101 Dalmatians themed printed handbags. These playful details not only call back to previous collaborations between Coach and Disney animations, but they also remind us grown-up fashionistas of our own joyful childhoods.
