See the 1960s-Inspired Dior Fall/Winter 2018 Campaign
The 1960s are back and now distinctly modern in the newly-revealed Dior Fall/Winter 2018 campaign. This season’s collection from the designer brand is all about updating the styles and spirits of 1968, 50 years later. And its inspirations are diverse and captivating.
“Inspired by the cult French New Wave film A Woman is a Woman by Jean-Luc Godard, the House’s new campaign features a woman who’s simultaneously multifaceted and unique, actively engaged in living and liberated first and foremost,” the brand shared on Dior Mag. “This vision of femininity is championed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and embodied here by independent heroines. Inhabited by the spirit of revolt of May ‘68, a key source of inspiration of the collection, these beautiful intellectuals pose for Pamela Hanson’s camera, sometimes alone, sometimes in groups, dressed in a wardrobe freed from codes.”


The silhouettes and protest-heavy spirit of the 60s decade not only serve as the artistic inspiration behind the designs. The sentiments are quite literally woven into a line that celebrates women and the revolutionary spirit. The latest photo shoot series and accompanying campaign film show that off those details well.
“Under their skirts or floral patchwork dresses, they wear clogs or biker boots,” Dior explained. “Riffing on the mix of styles, they also look to the outfits of college girls, appropriating their plaid patterns as symbols of rebellious youth in search of freedom. The embroidery on the dresses, representing the elements, such as water, air or earth, are also those of a socially engaged woman, as is the oversized sweater on which one can read ‘C’est non, non, non et non!’, a shout of revolt borrowed from a scarf from the Miss Dior ready-to-wear line launched in the heady era of the swinging sixties.”
